Alternative Tunings

"To paraphrase Johnny Mars, retuning makes the harp serve the player, rather than the player serving the harp." - Pat Missin

  LOW TUNINGS

I can make low harps in hyperlow keys. Lower than you can imagine.

Low tunings do miracles in the right hands.

  MINOR HARPS

Nuff said, minor harmonicas are absolutely the best way to play minor tunes.

Natural minor goes great for most of the minor songs, and the harmonic minor sounds fantastic for folk, reggae, gypsy, balcanic, and other cool stuff.

  SPIRAL TUNINGS

Circular, True Chromatic, True Harmonic are all "spiral" tunings. This means that they are based on the same chordal sequence.

These have LOTS of chords, and are very easy to play in different keys on the same instrument.

  OLD-SCHOOL

The old masters from the 20's - 30's sound very differently. And there's a good reason for that.

Back in those days, harmonicas were tuned to "just" intonation, that allowed perfectly clear intervals. Try 2+5 draw on your harp. Hear the beating? In "just" intonation, this interval sounds clear and powerful.

I can recreate that huge, screaming tone for you.
